Season 21 of The Voice is currently in full steam, and just when we thought it couldn’t get any better, the masterminds behind this show found a way to take things up a notch. Ed Sheeran is set to join the popular singing competition in the role of a mega mentor.

Sheeran is joining the current coaches of The Voice—Blake Shelton, Kelly Clarkson, John Legend, and Ariana Grande—but what makes his role on the show different than theirs? The British hitmaker will mentor artists who have already made it through “Battle Rounds” as they prepare for “Knockout Rounds”.

During the Knockouts, artists will be paired against a teammate and get to choose and perform their own song, as their opponent watches and waits. Sheeran will use his experience with songwriting, musical production, and performing to prepare them for this challenge and help them make the best possible vocal and technical choices.

“Knockout Rounds” are set to kick off on October 25th, but his mentorship role on The Voice won’t be the only thing keeping Sheeran busy. He’ll also be busy promoting his upcoming album = aka Equals, set to come out on October 29th.
