Ed Sheeran never struggled to top the charts in the UK, and his latest single “Shivers” has proven his dominance in a historic way. After it debuted atop the chart, Sheeran scored a record-breaking 52 weeks at no. 1 on the UK singles chart.

Even if “Shivers” didn’t debut atop the chart, Ed Sheeran would still reach this number. His latest single actually replaced “Bad Habits”, which spent 11 weeks at no. 1 since its release earlier this summer.

What makes Sheeran’s latest chart achievement so impressive is the fact only two artists managed to spend more time atop the UK singles chart. Before he reigned over the chart for a full year across his catalog, Elvis Presley did it for 80 weeks, while The Beatles spent 69 weeks on top.

We’re pretty sure Sheeran’s number of weeks spent at no. 1 will get higher since he has some new music on the way. “Shivers” and “Bad Habits” will be among 14 tracks set to be featured on his upcoming album = (pronounced as Equals), set to hit the shelves on October 29th.
