If we asked you to name the British artist who made the biggest splash in the music industry this decade, Ed Sheeran’s name would probably come up, so it doesn’t come as a surprise that he earned the title of no. 1 recording artist of the past 10 years.

The Official Charts Company bestowed this title on Sheeran, after he snagged 12 number ones across the official singles and albums chart between 2010 and 2019, and managed to spend 79 weeks on the top of the charts in the UK.

Martin Talbot, CEO of the Official Charts Company, described Ed Sheeran as “a worthy recipient of this amazing new award” and praised his monumental achievement.

“At the start of the decade, he was a little known – albeit highly-rated – young 18-year-old lad from Suffolk. But his catalog of achievements since then are genuinely remarkable. Today, he is firmly established among the highest level of global music superstars,” said Talbot in a statement.

This announcement comes shortly after the “Shape of You” singer made it to Forbes’ list of the highest-paid musicians of 2019, where he scored the third spot, right after Taylor Swift and Kanye West.
