“Elementary” Ends its Run On CBS After Seven Seasons

Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu in "Elementary"

The Modern-day Sherlock Holmes adaptation Elementary is coming to a closure. CBS just announced it is canceling the critically acclaimed drama after seven amazing seasons.

This surprising news comes a few months after the network announced Elementary will be coming back for Season 7. Jonny Lee Miller, Lucy Liu and co. recently wrapped up the upcoming season, and CBS executives decided it should  be the last chapter of this story.

“A lot of parties came together and talked about their positions on the show – both in terms of business and in terms of creative – and we all decided that this was an opportune time to say goodbye to a show that has been very, very good to us,” explained Kelly Kahl, CBS Entertainment President.

Everyone involved in this project felt this was the perfect time to wave goodbye. The contracts of the lead actors, Jonny Lee Miller and Lucy Liu, were about to expire anyway, and the masterminds behind Elementary saw it as an opportunity to end things on a high note.

The seventh and final season will premiere sometime in 2019, but the release date is yet to be announced.
