Max Minghella is currently plotting his next directorial effort, and its cast is an embarrassment of the riches. His The Handmaid’s Tale co-star Elisabeth Moss will play the lead role in his psychological thriller Shell alongside Kate Hudson and Kaia Gerber.

Shell centers on a struggling actress Samantha, whose life and career are transformed after she agrees to get a free trial at Shell, a pioneering health and beauty company that promises to keep its clients looking young forever. She notices something is amiss after former Shell patients start disappearing under mysterious circumstances.

In addition to playing the lead role, Elisabeth Moss will produce the project through her company Love & Squalor. She’s looking forward to being directed by Minghella after working together for years on The Handmaid’s Tale.

“This is one of the most unique, entertaining, and special scripts I’ve ever read and I am so honored to be a part of it as an actor and flattered that Max came to me with this character, who’s unlike anyone I’ve ever played before,” she said in a statement.

Shell will explore the themes of society’s obsession with youth and beauty, and it marks Minghella’s second directorial effort, following his feature debut Teen Spirit starring Elle Fanning.
