Ellen DeGeneres has been making us laugh for over two decades, and the Golden Globes are celebrating her incredible achievements by honoring her with the Carol Burnett Award at the upcoming ceremony.

This special honor was first introduced last year, and it was named by the first recipient – groundbreaking comedienne Carol Burnett. It’s reserved for individuals who made outstanding contributions to the television medium, and it’s only fitting for DeGeneres to follow in Burnett’s footsteps.

Lorenzo Soria, president of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association, released an official statement saying how delighted they are to honor the beloved talks show host with this award and celebrate her achievements at this year’s ceremony

“From her sitcoms, to stand-up, to becoming a household staple on daytime television, she is a pioneer who has captivated audiences for nearly 25 years with her undeniable charm and wit. In addition to her television success, she’s an advocate and philanthropist, lending her voice to those who don’t have one, and spreading kindness and joy through the power of her platform.”

Ellen DeGeneres already has 30 Emmys under her belt, and she received several honorary awards over the years. In addition to being presented with the Presidential Medal of Freedom in 2016, she was also honored with Mark Twain Prize for American Humor back in 2012.
