Emma Mackey is fresh off winning Rising Star Award at this year’s BAFTAs, but this victory is pretty bittersweet for her fans. After getting her big break with the role of Maeve Wiley in S-x Education, Mackey revealed that the show’s fourth season will most likely be her last.

While doing the press at the BAFTAs, Mackey was asked if she’ll be back in Season 5 of the beloved teen series. She revealed she just finished filming the fourth season, adding that she said goodbye to Maeve and that she doesn’t expect to come back for another season.

Despite her exit, Mackey is very excited about what’s to come and she’s looking forward to watching the show as an audience member.

“It feels very familiar! And it’s a bit more sporadic because we have more characters. So there’s… I’m not in it as consistently… We’re in the middle of filming now, and I’m excited to be back. And yeah, I’m intrigued to know what’s going to happen,” Mackey told Radio Times.

Mackey’s career took off when she was cast in S-x Education in 2019, but she doesn’t owe her Rising Star Award to this series alone. She played the titular role in the Emily Brontë biopic last year, and we’ll soon get to see her in Barbie alongside Margot Robbie.
