The cast of Sony Pictures’ Marvel project Madame Web is getting more impressive by the day, and Emma Roberts is the latest addition to the star-studded ensemble. She’ll play a mystery role alongside Dakota Johnson in this Spider-Man spin-off.

Madame Web appeared as a supporting character in the Spider-Man comic book series, and she was depicted as an elderly woman with myasthenia gravis, connected to a life support system resembling a spiderweb. She never actively fought any villains due to her age and medical condition, but it’s possible this adaptation will put a twist on her character.

Roberts is best known for playing multiple roles in the anthology series American Horror Story, most recently appearing in American Horror Story: 1984. She’s currently attached to several projects, including the romantic comedy Maybe I Do, starring Diane Keaton, Susan Sarandon, and Richard Gere. She’s also set to star in the animated movie Saurus City, comedy About Fate, and thriller Returns.

In addition to Johnson and Roberts, Madame Web will also star Sydney Sweeney, Celeste O’Connor, Isabela Merced, and Tahar Rahim. S.J. Clarkson hopped on board as a director, while Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless penned the screenplay. The film’s premiere date is set for July 7, 2023.
