The popular sitcom Everybody Hates Chris is returning to television, but this time as an animated series, according to Deadline.

The animated reboot will see the return of comedy superstar Chris Rock, who will narrate the show as he did the original. Co-creator Ali LeRoi (The Obituary of Tunde Johnson) is set to take part as well.

The project is currently in development by CBS Studios and will reportedly soon be offered to potential buyers. It is unclear whether the show will be a re-imagination of the original or will the creators opt to use new stories.

Everybody Hates Chris premiered in 2005 and ran for four seasons on UPN and The CW. The sitcom was set in the 1980s and was based on Rock’s life and experiences as a teenager.

It starred Tyler James Williams as a young Chris Rock, Terry Crews and Tichina Arnold as Rock’s parents Julius and Rochelle, Tequan Richmond and Imani Hakim as his siblings Drew and Tonya, and Vincent Martella as Chris’s best friend Greg Wuliger.

The series received critical acclaim during its original run and had solid ratings. It won an NAACP Image Award for writing while also picking up several Golden Globes and Emmy Award nominations.
