The first trailer for the film version of the musical Everybody’s Talking About Jamie was released in honor of National Coming Out Day.

Newcomer Max Harwood plays Jamie, a teenager who dreams of becoming a drag queen. After Jamie announces that he plans on attending the school prom in a dress, he faces prejudice and has to learn to be himself. The one thing he’s certain of is that he’s destined to be a drag queen, so he stages a drag show.

“I don’t just want to be a drag queen, I have to be one,” Jamie says in the trailer.

The film’s inspired by the real-life story of Jamie Campbell, who came out at 14 at school. His story was told in the BBC 3 documentary Jamie: Drag Queen at 16 and was later adapted for the West End in 2017. The director of the show, Jonathan Butterell will make his feature film debut.

Everybody’s Talking About Jamie stars Richard E. Grant, Sarah Lancashire, Lauren Patel, Shobna Gulati, Ralph Ineson, Adeel Akhtar, Samuel Bottomley, and Sharon Horgan. British drag performers Myra Dubois, Anna Phylactic, and Son Of A Tutu make guest appearances in the film.

The film was scheduled to be released in October but has since been pushed back to February 26, 2021, due to the pandemic.
