Fantastic Beasts 3 has gotten an official title and release date.

The next installment in the franchise is titled The Secrets of Dumbledore and it’s set to open in theaters on April 15, 2022. This is almost three months ahead of its initial July 15 release date.

The official logline per Variety is: “Professor Albus Dumbledore knows the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald is moving to seize control of the wizarding world. Unable to stop him alone, he entrusts Magizoologist Newt Scamander to lead an intrepid team of wizards, witches and one brave Muggle baker on a dangerous mission, where they encounter old and new beasts and clash with Grindelwald’s growing legion of followers.  But with the stakes so high, how long can Dumbledore remain on the sidelines?”

David Yates, who worked on Harry Potter, will be returning to direct the third film. The prequel series takes place decades before Harry, Ron, and Hermione, and follows magizoologist Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne), who became a confidant for Dumbledore (Jude Law) during the rise of Grindelwald.

Mads Mikkelsen is replacing Johnny Depp as Grindelwald. The cast also includes Katherine Waterston, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Dan Fogler, and Jessica Williams.

J.K. Rowling and Steve Cloves, who worked on many of the original Harry Potter movies, are co-writing the script for the third film.
