The Fantastic Beasts franchise was originally supposed to feature five movies, but only three eventually saw the light of day. It’s highly unlikely we’ll see any more in the near future after its director David Yates said that the franchise “is parked” for now.

This franchise was conceived as a Harry Potter spinoff, and it starred Eddie Redmayne as Newt Scamander, the wizard and magizoologist who has immense knowledge about magical creatures. As the franchise progressed, it introduced us to many familiar characters from the Harry Potter books, including Albus Dumbledore and Gellert Grindelwald.

David Yates, who directed all three Fantastic Beasts films, recently discussed its future with Total Film and said this franchise is “all just parked” for now.

“We made those three movies, the last one through a pandemic, and it was enormous fun, but it was tough. We’re all so proud of [Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore]. When it went out into the world, we just needed to sort of stop and pause, and take it easy,” explained Yates.

Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald, and Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore earned a joint total of $1.8 billion at the international box office, but never managed to reach the critical and commercial success of the original Harry Potter series.
