“Fast & Furious 9” Release Date Pushed Back to April 2021

Vin Diesel in the "Fast & Furious 9" trailer

Fans of the Fast & Furious franchise will have to wait a little longer for their next fix. Vin Diesel, who is playing the protagonist of the movie series, Dominic Toretto, has announced on social media that the release date is pushed back to April 2021 — almost a year after the scheduled date of May 22nd, 2020.

“To our family of Fast fans everywhere, we feel all the love and the anticipation you have for the next chapter in our saga. That’s why it’s especially tough to let you know that we have to move the release date of the film. It’s become clear that it won’t be possible for all of our fans around the world to see the film this May,” he wrote in a Twitter post. “While we know there is disappointment in having to wait a little while longer, this move is made with the safety of everyone as our foremost consideration.”

The reason for the delay is, of course, the spread of the Coronavirus. Fast & Furious 9 joins other movies that have been pushed back due to the virus such as the next Bond movie, No Time to Die, Peter Rabbit 2, and Greyhound. Production of the next Mission Impossible and Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic were put on hold.
