The 1989 cult sports movie Field of Dreams is getting a TV adaptation. According to The Hollywood Reporter, streaming service Peacock gave the project a “straight to series” order.

The series hails from The Good Place creator and passionate baseball fan Michael Schur. Peacock describes Field of Dreams as a reimagining of “the movie’s mixture of family, baseball, Iowa and magic that made the feature so enduring and beloved.”

The cast and the premiere date of the series are still being kept under wraps.

Field of Dreams movie, directed by Phil Alden Robinson, was based on W. P. Kinsella’s 1982 novel Shoeless Joe. It centered on a farmer Ray Kinsella, played by Kevin Costner, who decides to build a baseball field on his farm after having a vision in which he is told to do so by a legendary baseball player Shoeless Joe Jackson. Eventually, the field attracts ghosts of other baseball legends.

The movie has been recently enjoying a resurgence in popularity, mainly thanks to MLB’s decision to build a baseball field on the original filming site and stage a game between Chicago White Sox and New York Yankees there. The game, which saw a special appearance by Costner, ended up being the most-watched regular-season game in years. The league already announced plans to stage the Field of Dreams game in 2021 as well.
