Disney has given us several glimpses of The Little Mermaid in the past few months, and they just dropped the first full trailer. The promotional clip was shown during the Oscars on Sunday, before being released online along with the film’s new poster.

The first official trailer opens with Ariel (Halle Bailey) witnessing a shipwreck and swimming all the way up to the surface to save Prince Eric (Jonah Hauer-King) from a certain death.

Ariel is the youngest daughter of King Triton, and her fascination with the human world only becomes stronger following her encounter with Prince Eric. She makes a deal with a conniving sea witch Ursula to trade her beautiful voice for human legs and finally live her dream of discovering the world above the water.

In addition to Bailey and Hauer-King, the live-action adaptation of The Little Mermaid will also star Javier Bardem as King Triton, Noma Dumezweni as Queen Selina, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, Daveed Diggs as Sebastian, Awkwafina as Scuttle, and Jacob Tremblay as Flounder.

The Little Mermaid was directed by Rob Marshall, who previously worked with Disney on Mary Poppins Returns. The film will be released theatrically on May 26, and its streaming date on Disney+ is yet to be announced.
