The Planet of the Apes franchise is a gift that keeps on giving, and the next film in this series is just around the corner. The first trailer for Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes is here, and it imagines a world where the apes reign control and humanity is on the run.

According to 20th Century Studio’s official synopsis, this film is set several generations after Caesar’s reign, where humans live in the shadows and apes are the dominant species living harmoniously on Earth.

“As a new tyrannical ape leader builds his empire, one young ape undertakes a harrowing journey that will cause him to question all that he has known about the past and to make choices that will define a future for apes and humans alike,” reads the film’s logline.

Owen Teague leads the way as a young chimpanzee Noa, while the supporting cast includes Freya Allan, Kevin Durand, Peter Macon, and William H. Macy. Wes Ball, the director of The Maze Runner franchise, was in charge of helming this sequel.

Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes will hit the theatres on May 24, 2024, and 20th Century Studios developed it as the first in a new trilogy of Planet of the Apes films.
