It’s been a while since we’ve seen Angelina Jolie lead a major Hollywood movie, but she’s ready for her big comeback! The Oscar-winning actress will portray the iconic opera singer Maria Callas in Pablo Larraín’s upcoming biopic, and the first look at this project is finally here.

Maria centers on one of the most renowned and influential opera singers of the 20th century, Maria Callas, and it chronicles her final years in Paris during the ’70s. In addition to Jolie in the lead role, this project will also star Pierfrancesco Favino, Alba Rohrwacher, Haluk Bilginer, Kodi Smit-McPhee, and Valeria Golino.

Larraín previously directed Natalie Portman in the Jackie Kennedy biopic Jackie and Kristen Stewart in the Princess Diana biopic Spencer, and he’s looking forward to bringing another formidable woman to the big screen.

“I am incredibly excited to start production on Maria, which I hope will bring Maria Callas’s remarkable life and work to audiences all around the world, thanks to the magnificent script by Steven Knight, the work of the entire cast and crew, and especially, Angelina’s brilliant work and extraordinary preparation,” said Larraín in a statement.

Maria will be shot over eight weeks in Paris, Greece, Budapest, and Milan, after receiving the SAG-AFTRA interim agreement.
