The first teaser trailer for Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald is finally here. The sequel to 2016’s Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them is set for release on 16 November 2018, and this is the first time that Warner Bros. gave us a glimpse of the movie.
You can check out the trailer and official synopsis below.
“At the end of the first film, the powerful Dark wizard Gellert Grindelwald (Johnny Depp) was captured by MACUSA (Magical Congress of the United States of America), with the help of Newt Scamander (Eddie Redmayne). But, making good on his threat, Grindelwald escaped custody and has set about gathering followers, most unsuspecting of his true agenda: to raise pure-blood wizards up to rule over all non-magical beings. In an effort to thwart Grindelwald’s plans, Albus Dumbledore (Jude Law) enlists his former student Newt Scamander, who agrees to help, unaware of the dangers that lie ahead. Lines are drawn as love and loyalty are tested, even among the truest friends and family, in an increasingly divided wizarding world.”
Besides Redmayne, Law, and Depp, the rest of Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald cast includes Katherine Waterston, Dan Fogler, Alison Sudol, Ezra Miller, Zoë Kravitz, Callum Turner, and Claudia Kim. The movie began shooting on 3 July 2017, with principal photography wrapping up in December 2017. J. K. Rowling wrote the script for the movie, while David Yates returns as a director.
Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald will serve as a second installment in the series of prequel movies set in the Harry Potter world. Although initially planned as a trilogy, Rowling revealed that there will be five Fantastic Beasts movies in total. All five movies will be directed by David Yates. The third film is currently scheduled for release on 20 November 2020.
