Five Nights at Freddy’s is one of the most exciting horror movies to premiere this Halloween weekend, and it truly had people glued to their seats. This surprise hit grossed over $130 million worldwide on a $20 million budget during its opening weekend, setting several records for Blumhouse along the way.

Five Nights at Freddy’s draws inspiration from Scott Cawthon’s video game franchise of the same name, and it centers on a troubled security guard working a night shift at an abandoned entertainment center, where animatronic mascots come alive, wreaking havoc and killing everyone in sight.

Josh Hutcherson leads the movie, with Elizabeth Lail, Piper Rubio, Mary Stuart Masterson, and Matthew Lillard in supporting roles. Emma Tammi adapted the film for the big screen and co-wrote the screenplay alongside Cawthon and Seth Cuddeback.

Five Nights at Freddy’s scored a $130 million global opening, with $78 million earned domestically. These numbers are quite shocking given several factors, including the film’s $20 million budget and the fact it was release on Peacock one day before hitting the theatres on October 27.

Five Nights at Freddy’s set several major box office numbers along the way, scoring the best domestic opening for Blumhouse, the best domestic opening weekend for a horror film in 2023, and the second-best day-and-date domestic opening weekend behind Marvel’s Black Widow.
