FKA Twigs is venturing into television. During a recent chat with I May Destroy You creator Michaela Coel, the”Cellophane” singer revealed that she’s currently working on a “martial arts” TV series for FX.

According to Twigs, she developed the series based on the music video for her single “sad day,” and the American cable network picked it up.

“It’s like a martial arts TV series which is very much centered around outsiders,” FKA Twigs told Coel in the interview, published on The Face. “And the idea of wanting to fit in but not being able to.”

Twigs added that she spent a lot of time researching how the Black community and the Chinese martial arts community have “a really deep connection” and how this translates to music mentioning the example of the Wu-Tang Clan.

To get an idea about the project, check out the clip for “sad day,” which shows FKA Twigs doing impressive swordplay with dancer Teake.

FKA Twigs has kept herself busy in recent months. On top of the new TV show, she had a role in the movie Brighton Beach, which is currently in post-production and is working on her new album. The follow-up to 2019’s Magdalene is expected to be out at some point in 2021.
