Florence Pugh is in talks to join Black Widow.

Should Pugh officially join, she is set to star opposite Scarlett Johansson in Marvel’s standalone superhero film about Natasha Romanoff, aka Black Widow, a spy and assassin who grew up being trained by the KGB before becoming an agent of SHIELD and Avenger. The character of Black Widow was first introduced in Iron Man 2 in 2010.

According to Variety, Marvel met with several actresses but opted for Pugh following raving reviews for her performance on Fighting With My Family. Character details have been kept under wraps, so it is unclear what character Pugh will play.

The action thriller will be directed Australian filmmaker Cate Shortland from a script penned by Jac Schaeffer. Shortland is best known for the Nazi drama Lore.

Pugh is definitely on the rise, starring in AMC’s The Little Drummer Girl. She’s also part of Greta Gerwig’s forthcoming adaptation of Little Women.
