Fox has given us one of its best medical dramas with The Resident, but all good things must come to an end. The sixth season of this medical drama concluded this winter, and it will serve as the show’s final chapter.

The Resident premiered on Fox in 2018 and it centered on a group of doctors working at a fictional Chastain Park Memorial Hospital. Over the course of the past six seasons, we watched this team of dedicated healthcare professionals face personal and professional challenges on a daily basis.

The series was created by Amy Holden Jones, Hayley Schore, and Roshan Sethi, while its ensemble cast included Matt Czuchry, Emily VanCamp, Manish Dayal, Shaunette Renée Wilson, Bruce Greenwood, Merrin Dungey, Melina Kanakaredes, Moran Atias, Malcolm-Jamal Warner, Glenn Morshower, Jane Leeves, Morris Chestnut, and Jessica Lucas.

The cancelation of The Resident was most likely caused by a decline in ratings as the seasons went on. Season 6 averaged 6.9 million viewers per episode, and it concluded on January 17, 2023.

Despite canceling The Resident, Fox already has another medical drama on the way. The adaptation of the popular Italian series Doc-Nelle tue mani titled Doc is expected to premiere during the 2023-24 season.
