The Hollywood Reporter confirms that the actor is set to recur in the comedy from NBCUniversal’s forthcoming streaming platform.

Freddie Prinze Jr. will star opposite star Soleil Moon Frye in the sequel pilot, which is one of the first projects currently in development at Peacock.

The Punky Brewster sequel is described as a continuation of the iconic 80s sitcom about a bright young girl raised by a foster dad. Punky (Frye) is now a single mother of three trying to get her life back on track when she meets Izzy, a young girl who reminds her a lot of her younger self. Per the outlet, Prinze Jr. will play Travis, Punky’s ex-husband.

The Punky Brewster pilot joins a roster that includes Rutherford Falls, a Battlestar Galactica reboot, limited series Angelyne, and a Saved by the Bell reboot among others.
