Frontman of Friendly Fires Ed Macfarlane explains why the band chose now to make their big comeback.

The indie rock band have been off the radar for five years, releasing their last album Late Night Tales: Friendly FiresĀ in 2012. This year, however, the band have made a huge comeback with sold-out tour dates and a new hit single “Love Like Waves”.

Fans have been wondering whether the tour is a nostalgia trip or if the band is planning to make new music. In an interview withĀ NME,Ā Ed Macfarlane confirmed the good news that a new album is “100% in the works”. He also explained why the band chose now to make their anticipated comeback.

ā€œIt did feel like it was a ā€˜now or neverā€™ moment. I think if we left it any longer it would probably never have happened, and I think to be honest with you I missed it. Thereā€™s something about playing our music live which I donā€™t get when I write music thatā€™s different from Friendly Fires.

ā€œWhen weā€™re together as a band and we can do the Friendly Fires thing live, everything runs more freely and I just wanted to do that again. It doesnā€™t feel like itā€™s the last chapter of our band. With ā€˜Palaā€™, we left it on a high and we sort of disappeared, and then I feel like something else has to happen.ā€
