Everyone’s favorite ‘90s sitcom is turning 25 this month, but if you’re expecting Rachel, Monica, Phoebe, Joey, Chandler, and Ross to be surprisingly reunited – you’re up for a disappointment. Creators of Friends recently discussed reunion rumors and shut down the idea.

Marta Kauffman and David Crane made an appearance at the 25th-anniversary panel at Tribeca’s TV Festival and discussed the iconic show in length. The question about a potential revival naturally came up, but the duo made it clear this option is off the table.

Kauffman described Friends as “a show about a time in your life when your friends are your family,” and that dynamics changes once you start a family. She also feels that the revival doesn’t make sense as it wouldn’t be better than show that already exists, and Craine echoed her statement.

“We did the show we wanted to do. We got it right, and we put a bow on it. If you visited those characters now, it just would not be the same DNA and chances are, it wouldn’t be as good,” said Friends co-creator.

This news shouldn’t stop you from watching your favorite episodes of beloved sitcom over and over again. All seasons of Friends are currently available on Netflix, but they’re set to relocate to new streaming service HBO Max in spring 2020.
