TikTok completely changed the music industry in the past few years, and it’s showing no signs of stopping. Many songs this year found viral popularity thanks to this social media platform and TikTok’s list of the biggest 2022 hits included everyone from Lizzo to Kate Bush.
If you want to find similarities between TikTok’s biggest hits and the Billboard Hot 100 for 2022, don’t waste your time. Most of them don’t hail from A-list artists and they’ve never managed to actually make it to the top of the charts, but some came pretty close.
“Sunroof” by Nicky Youre and Dazy made it to the top of TikTok’s list for 2022, but how did it do outside of this platform? It peaked at No. 4 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and made it to the UK Top 40, in addition to being streamed 397 million times on Spotify.
“Ginseng Strip 2000” by Yung Lean and “L$d” by Luclover rounded out the top three, but did any A-list artists make the cut? TikTok’s favorite Lizzo made it to several top lists for 2022, including this one with her chart-topping hit “About Dam Time”.
The list also included the viral hit “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” from the Disney movie Encanto and Kate Bush’s seminal hit “Running Up That Hill”, which experience somewhat of a renascence after being featured in Stranger Things earlier this year.
