After setting new grounds for Native-American representation on TV, Reservation Dogs is slowly nearing its final episode. Sterlin Harjo, who co-created this series alongside Taika Waititi, confirmed it will end its run with the upcoming third season.

Reservation Dogs stars Devery Jacobs, D’Pharaoh Woon-A-Tai, Paulina Alexis, and Lane Factor as four Indigenous teenagers in rural Oklahoma. After the tragic death of the fifth member of their friend group, they decide to do whatever it takes to leave their old life behind and collect money to chase the American dream in California.

Co-creator Sterlin Harjo broke the news on Instagram and admitted this was a difficult decision to make. He ultimately felt this was the right time to end the story, adding he’s thankful that the show got made in the first place.

“I always knew what the end of this story would be, I just didn’t know when it would arrive. As we continued to break stories and write scripts this season, it became clear to the producers, Taika, and me that the season three finale is the perfect series finale,” wrote Harjo.

Over the course of its first two seasons, Reservation Dogs was met with widespread critical acclaim and it won multiple awards, in addition to making it to the American Film Institute’s list of best shows of the year in both 2021 and 2022.
