Jeff Bridges is one of the latest Oscar-winning actors to make a transition to television with The Old Man – and he’s not going anywhere. It’s only been about two weeks since its premiere on the FX, but this thriller series has already been renewed for its second season.

Based on Thomas Perry’s novel of the same name, The Old Man centers on a former CIA operative Dan Chase. After 30 years of living off the grid, he is forced to go on a run after killing a hired assassin who breaks into his home.

Eric Schrier, FX Entertainment President, praised The Old Man for delivering “on the powerful intrigue and breathtaking action of Thomas Perry’s book” and applauded the creative team behind it for doing a fantastic job.

“The stellar cast led by Jeff Bridges, John Lithgow, Amy Brenneman, and Alia Shawkat is really connecting with audiences and we are excited to get to work on season two with our colleagues at 20th Television and this fantastic team,” said Schrier in a statement.

The Old Man was developed by Jonathan E. Steinberg and Robert Levine and it premiered on FX on June 16. The first season will feature a total of seven episodes, and the finale is set to air on July 21.
