Winter finally has an official premiere date!
HBO at long last has revealed Game of Thrones’ season 8 premiere date — April of 2019.
The premier date of the final season of HBO’s acclaimed fantasy drama was revealed in a promotional video, which dropped Tuesday morning. Unfortunately for fans, however, the teaser doesn’t include any new footage of the highly anticipated season.
The video features the some of the series’ key moments chronologically from its first to its seventh season including the Battle of the Bastards, Cersei Lannister’s Walk of Shame, Arya Stark witnessing the execution of her father Ned Stark, Joffrey Baratheon’s death, and much more
“When you play the Game of Thrones, you win…or you die,” Cersei explains in the voice-over. “There’s only one war that matters… and it is here,” Jon Snow adds. The video boasts, “Every battle. Every betrayal. Every alliance. Every risk. Every fight. Every sacrifice. Every death,” and ends with “#All for the throne.”
GoT director David Nutter has described the final season as “Spectacular, Inspiring, Satisfying.” He also let slip that “Season 8 episodes will all I think be longer than 60 minutes. They’ll be dancing around the bigger numbers, I know that for sure.”
“It’s about all of these disparate characters coming together to face a common enemy, dealing with their own past, and defining the person they want to be in the face of certain death,” co-executive producer Bryan Cogman told the Entertainment Weekly.
Emilia Clarke said fans should expect the series’ best season yet. “Every choice, every conversation, every attitude has this air of ‘This is it.’ Everything feels more intense,” she said. “I had a scene with someone and I turned to him and said, ‘Oh, my God, I’m not going to do this ever again,’ and that brings tears to my eyes.” Lena Heady also said, “There was a great sense of grief. It’s a huge sense of loss, like we’ll never have anything like this again.”
