George R.R. Martin wants you to know one thing before you read his new Game of Thrones novel.

If you’re already dreading the end of Game of Thrones, don’t forget that George R.R. Martin has a new 736-page epic novel on the way, aka Fire and Blood. There will be dragons and duels and by now we have come to expect that there will be lots of tragic character deaths and blood will be shed.

Before we get ahead of ourselves, the brilliant mind behind Game of Thrones wants his fans to know one thing before they delve into his new book. He has revealed this crucial word of warning to Entertainment Weekly.

“One thing I want to be clear in the piece here, this is not a traditional novel. I don’t want people buying it thinking they’re going to get something like A Game of Thrones or Dance With Dragons,” he clarifies.

“This is an imaginary history. It’s written in the style of a textbook as you’ve seen, which is quite a different style and is deliberately that way. That’s what I’ve set out to do and that’s what I’ve done and, hopefully, people enjoy it on that basis. I don’t want to mislead people into thinking they’re getting a traditional novel.”

He added: “It’s a generational story, it covers 150 years, there’s a large cast of characters who are born, grow up and die, and are succeeded by their children.”

Fire and Blood will be released on November 20.
