HBO Max went through many major changes recently, and that impacted the future of many of its projects. According to George R. R. Martin, the potential Game of Thrones spin-offs have also been impacted by these changes and some of them have already been shelved.

Martin marked the end of the year by sharing a lengthy post on his blog, where he reflected on the future of some of the projects he currently has in development. He said there are several GOT spin-off shows being developed at HBO, some faster than others, but also added that not all of them will be going forward.

“None have been greenlit yet, though we are hoping… maybe soon.  A couple have been shelved, but I would not agree that they are dead.   You can take something off the shelf as easily as you can put it on the shelf.  All the changes at HBO Max have impacted us,” wrote Martin on his blog.

The first Game of Thrones spin-off, House of the Dragon premiered on HBO this year to great success and it’s already been renewed for Season 2. HBO is currently developing several more shows in the same universe, including 10,000 Ships, 9 Voyages, and a Jon Snow sequel series.
