How to Train Your Dragon is getting its live-action adaptation, and one member of the original voice cast will also be a part of this remake. Gerard Butler agreed to return as Hiccup’s father Stoick in the live-action take on the beloved animated movie.

Butler voiced Stoick the Vast in all three films from the How to Train Your Dragon franchise, and he’s getting ready to reunite with this character. The Scottish actor joined the cast of its live-action remake, which will also star Mason Thames as Hiccup and Nico Parker as Astrid.

The live-action adaptation hails from Dean DeBlois, who’s directing, writing, and producing this project. Marc Platt and Adam Siegel are also producing the film via Marc Platt Productions, while Lexi Barta is overseeing it on behalf of Universal.

Just like the original How to Train Your Dragon films, the live-action version will center on the adventures of the young Viking Hiccup and his dragon Toothless. It’s scheduled to be released on June 13, 2025.

Butler remains one of Hollywood’s busiest action stars, and he has several high-profile projects on the way, including Den of Thieves 2: Pantera and In the Hand of Dante.
