Gerard Butler is no stranger to starring in explosive action movies with high stakes, and his next project Kandahar falls under that same category.

Butler is set to portray an undercover CIA operative working in the Middle East, who finds himself stuck in the heart of a hostile territory after his identity is revealed. He must fight his way out of the dessert while the elite Special Forces are out to get him.

Kandahar will be directed by Ric Roman Waugh, who previously collaborated with Butler on Angel Has Fallen and the upcoming disaster film Greenland. He co-wrote the script with former military intelligence officer Mitchell LaFortune.

Kandahar will be produced by Thunder Road Films, the same company in charge of Greenland. Producer Basil Iwanyk said it’s a pleasure to reunite with Butler and Waugh again.

“We are so thrilled to be able to bring the Greenland band back together again. Mitch’s script has always been a jewel in our slate, and to have this team bring it to life is a dream come true for us,” Iwanyk said in a statement.
