Gerard Butler’s Disaster Movie “Greenland” is Getting a Sequel

Gerard Butler in "Greenland"

The 2020 disaster flick Greenland, which stars Gerard Butler and Morena Baccarin in the lead roles, is getting a sequel. According to multiple reports, the follow-up will be titled Greenland: Migration and is set to begin filming in 2022.

Butler and Baccarin will reprise their roles as John and Allison Garrity while most of the team behind the cameras is set to make their return as well. This includes director Ric Roman Waugh and writer Chris Sparling.

The first Greenland movie follows the Garrity family and their fight for survival while a huge comet is heading towards Earth and threatening to end the world as we know it. The feature received positive reviews from the critics and had a modest box-office success despite receiving a limited theatrical release due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The sequel will reportedly once again focus on the Garritys, who survived the comet hit in their Greenland bunker. They now have to leave the bunker’s safety and embark on a dangerous journey across frozen Europe to find a new home.

Director Waugh confirmed the news about Greenland: Migration on social media while saying he is “really looking forward to the next chapter of the Garritys post the first extinction event.”
