Golden Globes: Association Intervenes to Make Major Category Changes

Carey Mulligan in "Promising Young Woman"

Submitting movies for the Golden Globes can be tricky because some projects transcend several different genres. In these cases, the Hollywood Foreign Press Association intervenes and according to Variety these films have been changed this year.

Minari

Just like The Farewell last year, this film will be competing in the foreign-language film category and won’t be eligible for the best picture award because it’s mostly filmed in Korean.

Promising Young Women

This revenge film starring Carey Mulligan walks the fine line between comedy and drama, but it will be competing in the drama categories at the upcoming Golden Globes.

Hamilton

Hamilton was accepted to compete in the comedy or musical categories, which came as a surprise to many because it’s only a live film recording of the stage version of the beloved musical.

One Night in Miami

According to Variety, all four stars of the Regina King directorial debut—Kingsley Ben-Adir, Eli Goree, Aldis Hodge, and Leslie Odom Jr.—will be competing in the same category, either lead or supporting.
