The British actor Robert Aramayo is best known for his portrayal of a young Ned stark in the sixth and seventh seasons of Game of Thrones. Now, Deadline and Variety report that he is tapped to play the lead role in Amazon’s Lord of the Rings series. Aramayo will replace Will Poulter who was supposed to play the young hero Beldor but left the project due to scheduling problems.

Amazon banks on Lord of the Rings to replace Game of Thrones as a tremendously popular fantasy show. It appears the network is very confident with the show as it has already ordered a second season, while the shooting of the first season is yet to start.

Lord of the Rings is based on the works of J.R.R. Tolkien, of course, but is set to take place thousands of years prior to the events depicted in the novels and the successful movie trilogy.

Aramayo will join Joseph Mawle who also played on Game of Thrones. Mawle, who played Benjen Stark, joined the cast last October and will probably play the Villainous Oren. The production is due to begin this year.
