Paramount Pictures has been working on a prequel to the classic movie Grease. Now, the studio has found a director to helm Summer Lovin’.

The studio announced that Brett Haley will direct the movie from a script written by Leah Mckendrick. Up until now. Haley has directed mainly small indie films like I’ll See You in My Dreams, The Hero, and Hearts Beat Loud. He also directed All the Bright Places and Sorta Like a Rock Star for Netflix.

His actors, like Blythe Danner, Sam Elliott, and Nick Offerman, are known for giving noteworthy performances so it will be interesting to see if he will manage to get good performances from the upcoming prequel. One of the original movie’s most endearing qualities was the chemistry between its two stars, John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John.

As its name suggests, Summer Lovin’ will focus on the events described in the song “Summer Nights” in which Danny and Sandy meet each other and have a steamy summer fling. It remains to be seen whether the magic can be reworked.
