There are some staples that form part of life at Grey-Sloan Memorial Hospital: the wacky patients, the continuous stream of tears, and the brooding Dr. Alex Karev.
We’ve had to say goodbye to some important cast members throughout Grey’s Anatomy’s 16 seasons run, and another has just joined the list… Justin Chambers has confirmed that he has left the hit ABC series.
Part of the drama from the very first episode, Karev was one of the original five interns that included Meredith Grey (Ellen Pompeo), Christina Yang (Sandra Oh), Izzie Stevens (Katherine Heigl), and George O’Malley (T.R. Knight). Of the quintet, only Meredith and Karev are still part of the show, with the pair becoming more reliant on each other than ever.
“There’s no good time to say goodbye to a show and character that’s defined so much of my life for the past 15 years,” Chambers said in a statement confirming his exit. “For some time now, however, I have hoped to diversify my acting roles and career choices. And, as I turn 50 and am blessed with my remarkable, supportive wife and five wonderful children, now is that time.”
As it turns out, Dr. Karev has already been discharged. In the 350th episode which aired last November, the pediatric surgeon left to care for his ailing mother. Little did we know that that was the last time he’d be seen in the hallways of Grey-Sloan…
