The medical drama starring Ellen Pompeo wrapped production on episode 21 before halting production on its 25-episode 16 season due to the Coronavirus. We now learn that episode 1621 will serve as the season’s stand-in close.

Grey’s Anatomy executive producer and showrunner Krista Vernoff confirmed that the last produced episode of the hit medical drama will serve as the series’ season 16 finale. Vernoff assured fans that episode will be a “satisfying” one.

“We will resume our storytelling in Season 17,” she tweeted. “We are disappointed that we don’t get to complete our storytelling this season. The good news? 1621 plays like a satisfying finale! It’s not where we planned to end, but it’s beautiful & the questions that linger we will answer next year.”

In the episode, titled Put on a Happy Face, “Link tries to convince Amelia to take it easy during the final stage of her pregnancy; Hayes asks Meredith a surprising question; Owen makes a shocking discovery,” per ABC’s official logline.
