Sarah Drew is counting her last days as one of the cast members of Grey’s Anatomy since it was revealed that she won’t return for season 15. But, the 37-year old actress didn’t waste any time and immediately landed a new gig. It was announced on Tuesday that Drew has landed a role of Cagney in the upcoming CBS’ Cagney and Lacey reboot. Michelle Hurd, known for her role in crime drama Blindspot, will join the project as Lacey.

Cagney & Lacey aired on CBS from 1982 to 1988 and revolved around two female New York City police detectives who lead a completely different life. The original series starred Sharon Gless as Cagney and Tyne Daly as Lacey, receiving critical acclaim during its run.

According to the reports, the upcoming reboot will be set in Los Angeles. The character of Cagney is described as “an easygoing partner and protegee to Lacey,” while Lacey is described as “athletic and polished, and a former high school track and field champion. She’s empathetic and straight-forward — and Cagney’s more experienced partner.”

Bridget Carpenter (Friday Night Lights and Parenthood) will deliver a script and serve as an executive producer alongside Rosemary Rodriguez (The Walking Dead, Jessica Jones, and Law & Order), who will also direct the pilot.

Sarah Drew starred as Dr. April Kepner on Grey’s Anatomy from 2009 and show’s sixth season. It was reported recently that both Drew and her co-star Jessica Capshaw (Dr. Arizona Robbins) will leave the show after season 14 concludes. According to the Grey’s Anatomy showrunner Krista Vernoff, the decision to not bring the two actresses for season 15 was based on the creative direction.
