Grown-ish was the last remaining series in the Black-ish franchise, but its final season is just around the corner. The coming-of-age series led by Yara Shahidi and Marcus Scribner will soon return for its sixth season, but this will also mark its final chapter.

Creator and executive producer Kenya Barris confirmed the show’s cancelation and said it’s been a joy and honor to watch its young cast grow up in front of us over the course of the last decade.

“From the stories we’ve told to the talent we’ve fostered and, most importantly, the memories made, I could not be more proud of everything we’ve accomplished and the -ish family I’ve been a part of,” said Barris in a statement.

Grown-ish premiered in 2018 as the spinoff of Black-ish, and centered on the oldest Johnson sibling Zoey (Shahidi) after leaving the nest and beginning her journey through adulthood. The series shifted focus in Season 5, focusing on Zoey’s younger brother Andre Junior (Scribner) during his college years.

The cancelation of Grown-ish marks the end of Black-ish franchise for now. The mothership series led by Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross ended its run in 2022 after eight seasons on the air. Prequel Mixed-ish was canceled after two seasons, while spinoff Old-ish starring Laurence Fishburne and Jenifer Lewis never saw the light of day.
