The Loki stand-alone series is one of the most promising projects that Disney+ currently has in store, and its cast is becoming more impressive by the day. Gugu Mbatha-Raw has just been cast in the key role in this Marvel show, alongside Tom Hiddleston.

Details about her role are still under wraps, but Deadline reported she was cast “as a prominent character, described as the female lead”. This announcement comes shortly after Owen Wilson and Sophia Di Martino scored unspecified roles in this show.

Before being cast in Loki, Gugu Mbatha-Raw had a prominent supporting role on Apple TV’s The Morning Show and starred in Edward Norton’s latest movie Motherless Brooklyn. She has several new projects in development, including the beauty pageant drama Misbehaviour.

Loki is expected to premiere on Disney+ in 2021, and it will follow the adventures of the titular fan-favorite Marvel villain, the Asgardian god of mischief. The series is expected to take place after the events of Avengers: Endgame, and it could be tied with the upcoming Doctor Strange sequel.
