Academy Award-winning actress Halle Berry decided to try directing as well. Berry is set to make her directorial debut with mixed martial arts drama Bruised, in which she will also play the lead role. Michelle Rosenfarb wrote the script for the feature, while Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee will produce. The release date is yet to be announced, but the production is scheduled to kick off in March 2019.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Bruised follows Jackie “Justice” (Berry), disgraced MMA fighter who receives a reality check when her six-year-old son Manny, who she abandoned as a baby, comes back into her life. Jackie will have to learn to be a good mother to Manny while preparing herself to fight one of MMA’s biggest star.

Bruised was in development for some time, with Blake Lively being attached initially to the role of Jackie while Nick Cassavetes (The Notebook) was set to direct.

After making an appearance in 2017’s blockbuster hit Kingsman: The Golden Circle, Halle Berry decided to take a break in 2018. She is now looking to make up for the lost time and already announced that she will be working on several other projects besides Bruised. Berry is set to star in Sony’s remake of the 1985 thriller Jagged Edge, while she will also have a role in John Wick 3: Parabellum.
