Halsey’s new single, “You Should Be Sad,” is out, and she used it’s reference-filled music video to give a shout-out to some of her biggest music idols.
After being asked who inspired many of her epic costume changes in this video, Halsey confirmed she wanted to pay homage to “bada** idols” of hers. She gave a pretty obvious nod to Shania Twain’s song “That Don’t Impress Me Much,” but also paid tribute to Lady Gaga, Carrie Underwood, and Christina Aguilera.
Since “You Should Be Sad” takes place in a country nightclub and sees the singer line-dancing with a bunch of strangers, her fans started wondering if she’ll be dropping a country album, but she made it clear each track is unique in its own right.
“Every song has its own identity! I’ve always said ‘The album changes its mind as often as I do.’ The most petty and heartbreaking songs all come from country. I wrote YSBS on my living room floor on my guitar. Lots of time in Nashville too,” wrote Halsey on Twitter.
Manic is coming out on January 17th, and the singer already dropped several singles from this record, including “Graveyard,” “Clementine,” “Finally // Beautiful Stranger,” and “Without Me.”
