“The Handmaid’s Tale” Wins USC Scripter Awards

The 30th annual USC Scripter Awards were held on Saturday. These awards reward both screenwriters and authors of adapted source material in both film and television.

One of the top winners of the 30th annual USC Scripter Awards was The Handmaid’s Tale. Both screenwriter Bruce Miller and author Margaret Atwood were recognized for awards for The Handmaid’s Tale. Previous winners include The Night Manager and FX’s The People v. O.J. Simpson: American Crime Story.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, episodes “Offred” from The Handmaid’s Tale beat “You Get What You Need” from Big Little Lies, written by David E. Kelley and “Einstein: Chapter One” from Genius, written by Noah Pink and Ken Biller.

The film which won the USC Scripter Award for 2018 was Call Me by Your Name written by James Ivory. Previous winners  include No Country for Old Men,The Illusionist, The Devil Wears Prada.

In addition to this year’s winners in both film and television, famous filmmaker Ford Coppola, who is known for Patton and The Godfather was honored with USC Libraries’ Literary Achievement Award.
