Harry Potter is coming to television, but not in the way most fans would hope. HBO Max recently confirmed plans to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone with a quiz show based on the fantasy franchise and a retrospective special.

The quiz show will feature Harry Potter superfans competing in a series of trivia challenges. It will be divided into four episodes and is set to include appearances from special guests. The casting call is already opened at WizardingWorld.com, while HBO Max is also planning an online “play-along component” for viewers at home.

After the quiz show wraps up, the streamer will air a retrospective special produced by Casey Patterson. Further details about the special are yet to be revealed.

“To celebrate the dedicated fans old and new who have passionately kept the Wizarding World magic alive in so many forms for decades, these exciting specials will celebrate their Harry Potter fandom in a must-see multiplatform TV event,” said Warner Bros. Global Kids, Young Adults and Classics president Tom Ascheim in a statement.

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone was released in 2001 and served as the first entry in the Harry Potter film franchise, which is based on the books by J. K. Rowling. The movie was a huge hit earning more than $1 billion at the box office. At the time, it was the second-highest-grossing feature in the history of cinema.

The quiz and special might not be the only projects HBO Max has in store for Harry Potter fans. According to multiple reports, the streamer entered the early stages of development for a live-action TV series based on the world of Harry Potter. Details about it are scarce, but it is believed that the company is already recruiting writers to develop the idea further.
