Michael Gambon, best known for playing Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter franchise, passed away at 82. The Irish-English actor leaves a formidable legacy behind him, and many of his former collaborators sent condolences to his family following his passing.

Gambon died after a bout of pneumonia at the age of 82. His publicist Clair Dobbs released an official statement confirming the actor’s passing and said his family is devastated after this tragic loss.

“Beloved husband and father, Michael died peacefully in hospital with his wife Anne and son Fergus at his bedside, following a bout of pneumonia. Michael was 82. We ask that you respect our privacy at this painful time and thank you for your messages of support and love,” said Dobbs.

Gambon is best known for replacing the late Richard Harris in the role of Albus Dumbledore in the Harry Potter series. He played this iconic character in six out of eight films, and many of his former collaborators paid him emotional tributes, including Daniel Radcliffe and Rupert Grint.

Gambon had a six-decade-long career on stage, film, and television before his retirement in 2019. He was knighted for his services to drama and received three Olivier Awards, two SAG Awards, and four BAFTA Awards, in addition to being nominated for two Primetime Emmy Awards.
