Harry Styles’ “As It Was” Named the Biggest 2022 Single in the UK

Harry Styles’ “As It Was” is definitely one of the songs that 2022 will be remembered by after ruling the charts around the world. The Official Charts Company revealed its list of 40 biggest hits of 2022, and “As It Was” was crowned the biggest single of the year in the UK.

The end-of-the-year success of “As It Was” in the UK doesn’t come as a shocker, because it comes after this hit song spent ten weeks atop the UK Singles Chart, becoming the longest-running number-one and best-selling single of 2022 in Styles’ home country.

According to OCC’s data, this song shifted 1.57 million combined units, finishing the year with 180.9 million audio and video streams. Its parent album, Harry’s House, also topped the year-end album chart.

In addition to finding success in the UK, “As It Was” topped the charts in 35 countries, and set several major milestones in the US. It spent 15 weeks atop the Billboard Hot 100, becoming the longest-running No. 1 song by a solo act in the chart’s history.

The rest of the songs in the top five mostly hail from Ed Sheeran, even though he didn’t release a new album in 2022. He took No. 2 and No. 5 with “Bad Habits” and “Shivers”, respectively, and shared the No. 3 spot with Fireboy DML with their collaboration “Peru”. Cat Burns came in fourth with “Go”.
