The Little Mermaid has been found and now she is searching for her Prince Charming.
Halle Bailey was confirmed two weeks ago to play Ariel in the live-action remake of Disney’s 1989 animated classic about the mermaid who longs to be on land. The 19-year-old is one half of the R&B singing duo Chloe x Halle, and it appears as though another singer is set to act alongside her. According to reports, Harry Styles is being considered to play Prince Eric.
Whilst best known as a member of One Direction, the “Sign of the Times” singer made his acting debut in Christopher Nolan’s wartime blockbuster, Dunkirk. He also recently auditioned for the role of Elvis Presley in the upcoming Baz Luhrmann biopic about the King of Rock ‘n Roll.
It seems royalty of a different kind will be in Styles’ future if Rob Marshall chooses him to play the Prince who Ariel saves from drowning and for whom she then agrees to give up her voice.
Melissa McCarthy is in negotiations for the part of Ursula, the sea witch with whom Ariel makes the dodgy deal, while Jacob Tremblay and Awkwafina have signed on to voice Ariel’s friends Flounder and Scuttle.
We’ll soon find out if Harry will kiss the girl.
