Harry Styles gave us one of the quintessential songs of summer 2020 with “Watermelon Sugar,” and this song is finally getting the love it deserves. It topped the Billboard Hot 100 this week, becoming the singer’s first single to ever hit No. 1.

“Watermelon Sugar” had a quite long journey to the top of the charts since it was released all the way back November 16th, as a promotional single from Styles’ latest album Fine Line. Its rise to the top started on May 15th, when it was released as the fourth official single and sent to radio stations.

Music video directed by Bradley & Pablo came out three days later, and it created even more buzz. It was filmed all the way back in January in Malibu, California and it drew inspiration from Paul McCartney’s 1960s style.

“Watermelon Sugar” is Styles’ first single to ever reach No. 1 in the U.S., but that’s not the case with the UK and Australia. He topped the charts in these countries with his debut solo single “Sign of the Times,” but failed to replicate the same kind of success with the songs from Fine Line.
